Located in the heart of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Alcare Place is a registered not for profit organization that helps men who are or have been harmfully involved with alcohol, drugs, and gambling. Alcare Place provides a stable and safe environment in which men are able to redirect all their energy towards their recovery without the worry of providing work, shelter and food for themselves. Alcare Place houses up to 13 residents and is supervised 24-hours a day. The house is open to male addicts aged 19 and over. Alcare adopts a client-centered, holistic approach to the disease of addiction. Alcare Place is seeking a Treasurer to serve on its Board of Directors and provide financial leadership to the organization, including regular reporting to the Board. The Treasurer shall make a report at each Board meeting. Treasurer shall chair the Finance committee, assist in the preparation of the budget, help develop fundraising plans, and make financial information available to Board members and the public. A qualified candidate will: ?Maintain knowledge of the organization and personal commitment to its goals and objectives ?Understand financial accounting for nonprofit organizations ?Serve as financial officer of the organization and as chairperson of the finance committee. ?Manage, with the finance committee, the board's review of and action related to the board's financial responsibilities. ?Work with the Executive Director and the Chair to ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the board on a timely basis. ?Assist the Chair, Executive Director, and or Chief Financial Officer in preparing the annual budget and presenting the budget to the board for approval. ?Review the annual audit and answers board members' questions about the audit. The organization is seeking a board member with experience in estate planning and/or donation of securities to charities. The organization has a great treasurer in place and is looking to develop a planned giving program to better serve those impacted by ALS over the long term. As a member of the Board of Directors, Directors are required to: ?Regularly attend board meetings and important related meetings ?Make a serious commitment to participate actively in committee work ?Volunteer for and willingly accept assignments and complete them thoroughly and on time ?Stay informed about committee matters, prepare for meetings, and review and comment on minutes and reports ?Get to know other committee members and build a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus ?Be an active participant in the committee’s annual evaluation and planning efforts ?Participate in fundraising.
